In the news today, a small boy is missing. I tie this in with the calendar because I find that news of the hour is sufficienct unto itself and does not stand a day. When a child is missing, the whole nation grieves, when a child is abused no one knows in this culture because we are so distant from one another. When abused we hide and hope no one notices and tend our wounds ourselves but when wounded privately we announce it to the world and hope to hide afterwards. An instance is in this case the bad hearted prisoner who hopes to get out on good behavior, doesn’t abuse inmates but as soon as released abuses his wife and isn’t caught for fifteen years as the Dalai Lama likes to point out: Years or months of abuse doesn’t matter, both hurt and if one is steady enough then it is continuously a habit and effects one forever. Both parties, but the one abused is effected in the heart, mind, body, and soul continuously and may never recover and that’s the one he is concerned about.
What if we concerned both, then he wouldn’t be released from prison until his habit was cured and his wife wouldn’t take him back until she knew he wasn’t an abuser. That’s healing, not simple imprisonment. Balast as cheap you say, not cheap but dear.
