I wanted to stay home and brood and moved to California for a big time job, the only professional staff with a B.A., all the rest had Ph.ds. Why was that, cause I went to the Universtiy of Michigan or had a tiring affair or more wrote an interesting cover letter, all three, they knew my husband, boyfriend at the time. Thought he was a beach bum, maybe that got me in. Any way three factors did, and the other, the third: a good recc from a professor from the World Bank who knew of Rand and also Rand has connections with the World Bank, the premier Economic Development Agent in the Developing World. What they do serves a certain sect and I am aware of it as I could have worked there but phew what it costs to everyone, expecially overseas. Any hoo, got in a privldege. And I am basic, my father was a carpentar with arthritic hands. But the point was connections and I got them going to a good school and after graduating working for a professor who was tops. The point is we don’t talk about privledge, what gets us where. Is it smarts, good looks or just plain luck? Connections. And, the cost of privledge is not to talk about it and say it just happened: I was lucky or shoot, it just worked, or damn how did it happen. All those things that make others look stupid. Point: that’s arrangement and it happens to few and fewer and fewer and fewere. Don’t talk about it and let’s just rejoice and if you don’t have well gosh.
Something to say?
